Amina Orfi made history at Golf Central Palm Hills in Giza, Egypt. At 18 years and 10 months, Orfi became the youngest woman to lift the World Championship trophy.
By defeating Egyptian counterpart Nour El Sherbini in a dramatic battle, Amina Orfi denied El Sherbini a record ninth world title, winning 6–11, 11–6, 11–9, 7–11, 14–12 after 106 minutes of nail-biting action, overturning two championship balls along the way. The match now stands as the longest women’s World Championship match in history under the point-a-rally, first-to-11 scoring format, and the eighth longest professional women’s squash match of all time.
Orfi’s triumph not only delivered her 12th PSA title, but also marked a historic milestone, as she became the first woman ever to hold both the World Junior Championship and PSA World Championship crowns at the same time.
Speaking to the PSA World Tour, Orfi said:
“I’m speechless. I worked so hard to get here. This will add so much to my confidence. I had so many tough losses this season. Up until this tournament, I was satisfied with what I had done, but I knew I could do better.”
